How could we improve Pillow?

Out of bed functionality?

Often, when I can't sleep, I get up out of bed. This unfortunately causes the app to register this as R.E.M. sleep since there are no sounds. It would be really cool to have an "out of bed" button that either keeps it as 'awake' or even have another band above wake for 'out of bed'.

We working on a major update that will introduce an improved and much more accurate way to detect and analyse sleep, including the ability to manually set “Awake” periods during the night.

I’m using pillow on my iPhone alone. When I awake in middle of night, sometimes I pick up my phone, open the Apple Notes App and type out my ideas for the next day, while the pillow app runs in the back. The AI in the pillow interprets the sound of my typing as that I’m in light sleep. Instead, the pillow app should automatically know that the phone’s other apps are in use (such as notes, news, or safari) and such tag the time spent on other apps as time awake while using pillow.

Users should be able to listen to their own audio recordings and help tag them as awake touch screen typing, or getting out of bed for bathroom, or dog barking, to help train the AI to interpret the sounds better.

The solution could be as simple as turning the phone face up before you get out of bed, telling Pillow that you are awake/up/away from the bed, etc.... Would it be possible to have the screen illuminate to an adjustable brightness setting when the phone is turned face up, to remind the user to turn it face down when back in bed?

I am using an Apple Watch with Pillow. Why can’t it use the motion sensors to know when I am out of bed and moving? I can see detecting REM sleep would be difficult but having the Apple Watch should be much simpler.

The “normal “ REM stage is equal to motionless sleep or misinterpreted by the device when you are out of the bed. A muscle activity strap around calf would improve accuracy since large muscle groups are “paralyzed “ during normal REM. A comfortable head band with contact at temples should be able to detect rapid eye muscle activity also improving accuracy since deep sleep and REM would seem very similar to the phone sitting on the bed. (I don’t have a clue about wireless tech accuracy/ability though).
The out of bed button is a great and simple idea to eliminate the out of bed = REM problem. If the phone could also sense out of bed movement or distance from phone without being notified by the “out of bed” button, the “sleeper” can think huh? Wonder where I went and be able to give objective feedback to their sleep Doc. (Yes, I know the device doesn’t diagnose) but it’s just measuring motion and sound. That just adds more information that a hunting camera can’t give. What we do with the information is up to us.
The program is excellent at teaching good sleep habits which is different for everyone. If deep sleep increases and spontaneous awakenings decrease, your pre-sleep routine and sleep environment changes are working. Thanks! My sleep quality more than doubled by my second night using just the phone on the bed.

Recently I rested, was on vacation, and very much I sin on hotel beds, they are not very comfortable making love. I decided to take off a prostitute and have sex with her, but the beds really disappointed me.

I totally agree w this. Would like to have an out of bed button or a watching tv button. That would help a lot. Thank you.
